Global specialty chemicals group ALTANA is pushing deeper into the North American coatings market with the acquisition of Henkel’s $15 million specialty coatings business.
Terms of the deal, announced Thursday (Aug. 8), were not disclosed.

German-based Altana called the acquisition the “next step” in its “North American growth strategy.”
Packaging Products
The coatings are sold under the brand names MiraFoil and Miracure and are mainly supplied to the packaging industry in North America. The business generated sales of about $15 million in 2012.
Within the ALTANA group, the business will be integrated into ACTEGA Kelstar Inc. in the United States and into ACTEGA Terra GmbH in Germany. Both companies belong to the ACTEGA Coatings & Sealants division.

The technologies are acquired by way of an asset deal and include effect and overprint coatings curing under ultraviolet radiation and electron beam.
