《PU films, PU based adhesives and foams to meet rigorous requirements of medical device and healthcare》:
A wide range of thermoplastic polyurethane films and polyurethane-based adhesives and foams formulated to meet the rigorous requirements of today’s medical device and healthcare markets is on offer from Bayer MaterialScience. The company will highlight its materials for this market at MD&M East 2014. Here’s a preview.
Bayfol® UX502 multilayer medical packaging film is designed and manufactured to meet the demanding requirements to protect sensitive medical devices like orthopedic implants. Bayfol® UX502 film combines the ease of thermoforming processability with high abrasion resistance to help resist material wear issues associated with standard medical packaging. Multiple films of different materials are no longer needed to obtain these attributes as Bayfol® UX502 film does it all, providing superior protection while delivering thermoforming capability and inventory cost savings.
Platilon® and Dureflex® films: Wound dressings made with these films help protect wounds from environmental influences and accelerate the healing process with their high breathability. The films feel like a second skin for the patient’s comfort and may also be used to make surgical drapes that are skin-friendly and conform to the patient’s body shape. Surgeons value the customized surfaces and excellent adhesion for easy peel-off after surgery. Platilon® and Dureflex® films can also be fabricated to make medical bladders for air or liquid retention.
Bayer will demonstrate its polyurethane gentle skin adhesive made from Baymedix® A. The material’s adjustable adhesive strength offers an excellent solution for a wide range of wound care and skin contact applications. Additionally, the adhesive provides the advantages of breathability and compatibility with common device sterilization technologies.
When combined with Bayer’s breathable TPU films, OEM’s can achieve excellent breathability without perforation, thereby minimizing processing costs.
Bayer will also highlight breathable, soft touch films made from Baymedix® FD waterborne dispersions at MD&M East. When the waterborne polyurethane dispersions are combined with the new Baymedix® FP520 cross-linker, these films display high chemical stability in the presence of disinfectants. This feature is valuable for wound care and protective coverings.
Baymedix® FP reactive foam technology enables the production of very smooth and conformable foams that are non-yellowing, have high absorption rates and great fluid retention capability.
