CHEMICAL company Dow Corning have withdrawn planning application to build a new eco-friendly sustainable energy plant in Barry.
The proposed eco-friendly biomass energy facility would have been fuelled by recycled wood chips, a move the chemical company said would reduce their carbon emissions y 36,000 tonnes a year.
Dow Corning had hoped that construction would begin on the new system by the end of the year, creating 50 jobs during the two year project and nine jobs at the finished site on Cardiff Road.
The Vale of Glamorgan Councilhave received notice that Dow Corning have withdrawn their application.
A spokeswoman for Dow Corning said: “After considerable investigation we came to the conclusion that it was a very complex project.”
She added that “from a business perspective” the “financial benefit was not as evident as we first anticipated”.
