DELO Industrial Adhesives has developed a new flame-retardant adhesive. The two-component DELO-DUOPOX FR898 material received the UL 94 certification. It achieved a V0 classification, which is the best one within this class. This multi-purpose adhesive is listed under file # E467212.
UL is one of the world’s most important independent institutes for testing and certification of materials, components and end products in the field of product safety. In practice, it is often not possible to sell electric devices or electronic components without UL certification, particularly in North America.
The adhesive incorporates flame retardant fillers. Should fire come in contact with the adhesive surface, these fillers form a foam layer thermally insulating the plastic from the flame. An additional insulating layer covers the surface so that it cannot be touched by the flame, protecting the component.
Designed for use in switches, connectors and relays for electronics as well as in electric motors for mechanical engineering, this multipurpose adhesive adheres well to plastics, metals and electronic components. The new DELO-DUOPOX FR898 is also ideal for use in the oil and mining industries where hazardous materials are found.
The adhesive is normally used in a temperature range from -40 to +140 °C. As it cures at room temperature, it is particularly suitable for small- and medium-volume series as well as massive and temperature-sensitive components. If shorter cycle times are required, the curing process can be accelerated by using heat. Because of its specifically adapted viscosity, the adhesive is easy to dispense but still steady. It can be processed like a one-component product from the DELO-AUTOMIX system, manually from open containers or automatically on two-component dispensing systems.
