Dow Corning joins Chinese authorities to battle counterfeiters of its silicone sealants

《Dow Corning joins Chinese authorities to battle counterfeiters of its silicone sealants》:

WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP, MI — As part of an ongoing effort by government authorities across China to crack down on counterfeiting, law enforcement authorities in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, broke up a counterfeiting ring selling fake Dow Corning silicone sealant.

The ring was selling the counterfeit Dow Corning products across six provinces and one city, including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Shanghai, according to a Dow Corning news release.

Dow Corning is based in Bay County and is a joint venture of Midland-based Dow Chemical Co. and Corning Inc. of New York.

In China, officials arrested more than 10 counterfeiters and seized the counterfeit products, which imitate Dow Corning’s line of silicone sealants used in building homes, schools and workplaces.

China’s crackdown on counterfeiting began in November, and the ring selling fake Dow Corning products was the largest case, the release states.

Dow Corning officials say these efforts have increased customer confidence.

“Dow Corning is immensely grateful to the Wuxi New District Public Security Bureau for its great effort to fight counterfeit products,” Jeremy Burks, Greater China President, said in a prepared statement.

The company supported the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on the case, the release states.

His statement continued, “When the government attacks counterfeit products, it not only protects customers from low-quality products, but also improves the local investment environment, giving companies confidence in the China market. Protecting intellectual property like this will drive sustainable industry development and ensure that customers have access to highest-quality materials produced with responsible and safe methods.”

Dow Corning officials say Dow Corning silicone sealants are the result of careful research and extensive testing, to ensure the long-term durability, safety and sustainability of the materials. Counterfeit products offer no such safeguards and undermine Dow Corning business partners and distributors, the release states.

“Dow Corning has a zero-tolerance stance on counterfeiting and won’t rest until these low-quality products are completely removed from the market,” Burks stated. “This year we have stepped up our efforts to proactively work with law enforcement authorities to protect our customers and partners by removing these risky products from the market.”
