Ford has selected 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive PN08115 and the 3M File Belt Sander as approved products for repairing the new Ford F-150 aluminum cab pickup. As word of the new Ford F-150 pickup rolls out across the country, collision repair professionals are preparing for the new repair tools and techniques needed for the high-strength aluminum vehicle. Now, 3M’s Panel Bonding Adhesive and File Belt Sander are approved solutions for their repair challenges.
3M and Ford have had a working relationship for almost a century, especially in the collision repair industry. When the next-generation Ford F-150 hit the drawing boards, 3M was there to work with engineers at Ford’s Paint and Body Technical Center on solutions for manufacturing the truck and to help make sure collision repairers would have the right tools and materials in place before the vehicle even launched. “In order to make sure that repairs to the new truck were straightforward and reasonable for mainstream collision repair facilities, Ford engineers worked with collision industry leaders, including 3M, during the development of the Workshop Manual,” said Jason Scharton, 3M’s business development manager for OEM/collision repair. A two-part epoxy adhesive that provides extended work time but can be rapidly cured with heat, 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive has excellent adhesion to a wide variety of plastic and metal substrates and can be used to bond door skins, roof skins, quarter panels and box sides. It’s available in 200-, 50- and 400-milliliter cartridges. In addition, Ford has approved the use of the 3M File Belt Sander for grinding out self-piercing rivets, removing seam sealer and preparing surfaces for rivet-bonded repairs.
3M worked closely with Ford in the development of Ford’s Collision Repair Workshop Manual, and the 3M File Belt Sander is included in Ford’s Aluminum Use Hand Tool Kit. The 3M File Belt Sander is available with 3M Green Corps Abrasive File Belts and Scotch-Brite Durable Flex Belts in a variety of sizes and grits.
